Attractions

Although the second largest in Tanzania, the reserve is perhaps the least well-known and not subject to the tourist pressures of the better-known parks - and yet to connoisseurs it is without doubt one of the most spectacular in Africa. The “Ruaha” comprises of a total conservation area of 10 300 square kilometers. The park is located within and along the Great Rift Valley. This presents an ecosystem and range of wildlife from Plains Game to the elusive Roan and Sable antelope. Ruaha’s remoteness has worked to the advantage of the park from the point of limiting development. That's why this allows only those tourist activities that contribute to a genuine understanding and appreciation of park resources to an extent that natural, aesthetic and scenic values are not compromised. The Ruaha covers a transition zone where Eastern and Southern African species of both fauna and flora meet.

Facilities

Jongomero Camp offers guests the experience of extreme isolation and wilderness. The camp is situated under tall Acacia trees in the remotest area of the southwestern sector of the park, along the Jongomero Sand River. From your canvas hideaway, you can observe at close quarters rare species of birds and animals to include lesser kudu, striped hyena, sable and roan antelope. The camp presents top quality accommodation units comprising eight well-appointed tents, tented dining facilities, giving a 'Classic Explorers' theme.

This vast wilderness is rich in wildlife and contains a wide variety that includes greater and lesser kudu, roan, and sable antelope and huge herds of elephant and buffalo. Nearly 500 bird species have been sighted within the park. The exciting Great Ruaha River features large numbers of hippo and crocodile and attracts lion, leopard, hunting dog and numerous other species such as waterbuck impala, giraffe, warthog and eland. Grants gazelle, ostrich and cheetah may be seen on the plains.

Facilities

Accommodation bandas, built from local stone and thatch, provide the perfect setting in which to relax between bush excursions. From the seclusion of your veranda you can watch wild animals as they descend from the hills to quench their thirst and nibble on the green grass. The dining bandas and bars, in elevated positions above the river, combine comfort and coolness with unrivalled panoramic views. The delicious food, made from the produce of our highland farm, competes with the distractions of the spectacular scenery.
